Howdy all,

Just wanted to share, in case this is an issue on other Impalas...

Last week, I went under my dash to spray a little lube behind my gas pedal, as I was getting a squeak at the hinge there. After doing that, I worked the pedal to see if I got the spot, and I noticed the entire pedal wiggling a bit . Upon closer inspection, I noticed the two bolts holding the gas pedal mounting plate to the firewall were loose! One was so loose I could uno it with my fingers.

I tightened them both and all is well. But I'm wondering if it should have been done with Loctite or a lock washer and the factory goofed. I plan to tell my dealership, in case it's happening on other Impalas. TSB maybe?

I'm thankful I went under there to get that squeak; I would hate to think what could have happened if that bracket popped out at 65 mph!

Read your post and went out to check my Impalas.

The 2004 was fine.
The 2009 - I was able to tighten one bolt by one half turn and the other bolt by one quarter turn. I wouldn't have described these as loose, however I was able to make them tighter.

One can report vehicle defects at www.safecar.gov

Just to clarify:

On mine, one bolt could easily be taken out with my fingers, the other was not that loose but I was able to tighten it at least a half-turn with my wrench.

Be good.

I noticed a wiggle in the 07 Impala the other day. I will have to take a look at this!

'06 torque spec is 44 inch-pounds (3.7 foot-pounds). That's more than finger tight but not much.
