Hey I was thinking about running Royal Purple since my engine is getting older(460,000kms) and I want to max out its life. There is nothing wrong with the engine, it runs like new and is quiet only thing is that it has had regular oil changes all its life. Would it really make a different ? Very Happy

I don't know that I'd switch to synthetic oil with that much mileage especially if it never saw it before. I'd be afraid it would find its way through all sorts of leaks you never knew you had.

I switched to Synthetic when i had around 100K miles on my car... One thing you might look at doing if you want to clean up the inside of the engine is running seafoam thru the crankcase about 500-1000 miles before you're about to change the oil.

I think that Tune Up stuff youre talking about is made by seafoam so it should be about the same thing... I pour it in my oil and i can check it occasionally and watch the oil turn blacker and blacker... Here lately it hasnt been turning that black but i still use it to clean up the engine before oil changes.

Oil itself keeps the engine nice and clean. With the addition of SF it can keep it cleaner. I use Royal Purple myself after seeing Sabrewings engine after he used it. You could practically eat off of it. Shocked

Just keep using regular oil, and use some SeaFoam in the crankcase here and there to keep it cleaner. With that mileage, you will have more blowby and oil contamination, so changing it at maybe 5k isnt a bad idea.

If the engine has lasted this long on regular oil and runs well, you're not really going to gain anything in life expectancy by switching to an expensive super-duper oil.

While clean internals are nice to look at, the wear surfaces are the only places where cleanliness counts, and they are more-or-less self-cleaning due to constant movement. So unless there is some major sludge or deposits from neglected oil changes, some varnish and light deposits are perfectly normal on any engine.
