I have a 200 Impala, and the fan only works on level 5. I have heard that replacing the whole unit might work, but also a resistor might be the culprit? Any way to check and find out? Any help would be great, thanks.

It's the blower motor resistor. Cheap part, a real pain to get at.

That diagram makes it look way to easy to replace. To the OP, you are going to be crammed up under the dash with a random assortment of tools cobbled together to get at the screws for the BMR. It's critical that you don't completely remove the screws holding the old BMR in place as you won't be able to get them back in without a bunch of 4 letter words and a serious fight.
