hello forum. are the stereos installed in the impala theft locked protected. if i reinstall my original stereo back in will it work or do i have to reprogram it?
If its the same radio that came with your car (the one you took out to install the aftermarket radio) it will still work. It is programmed to your VIN #. To put a radio from another car in there, you will need a Tech 2 to program your VIN to the new radio.
I am considering buying another cd player for my impala. My question is whet and where can I get it programed to the car? How much will this cost? Can I do this myself? Thanks for the info. And my car is a 2000 Impala LS and it will be from the same gen Impala.
My Monte Carlo was equipped with an AM/FM radio from the factory and eventually I got fed up with it and secured a CD player that was compatible with the car. I installed it and then drove it over to my dealer and asked them nicely if they could unlock it for me. They pulled out the tech 2 and took care of it and sent me on my way.
Unfortunately you can't do it yourself and you may not be able to find a dealer that would do it for free. If they don't do it for free, expect to pay somewhere between 0 and an hours worth of labor. Unless you have some valid reason for sticking with an OEM radio, it might be worthwhile to get an aftermarket stereo and an integration harness rather than getting something stock.
Protip: If you don't know what you're doing, don't do it.
