Ok, so my 03 Base Imp has been having air conditoning problems randomly.

When I'm driving, the air with randomly cut out. It happens most often when the air power is set to 3. When the air has cut out, if i change the air power to another level (1, 2, 4, or 5) it will start up immediately and I'll have air blowing. From that point, if i turn it back to 3, it will work Confused

Also, when it has cut out, if i leave the controls alone and don't touch the blowing power, it will start up again by itself after 20-some seconds.

It's not a major issue, since it does not cut out too often (maybe once every hour of driving) but it can get irritating and I don't want it to worsen leaving me with no AC in scorching summer days.

So what do you guys think could be causing this? What do you suggest I do? I want to get your opinions before I let any mechanic start tearing sh*t out looking for a problem. I'm definitely no car expert so anything could help

It could be a blower motor resistor that is starting to fry itself. Pretty cheap part to get, but its a pain in the ass to get to.

Removing the passenger seat and laying down is a good way to reach them. I had to do one in my g/f's old cavalier and that was such a PITA!

Even with the passenger seat removed, trying to shoehorn a 6'4" frame under the dash is not a fun job. If mine ever goes out again, I'll be paying a shop to do it for me.

Oh. I'm a smaller guy at 5'7" and I can fit pretty well with the seat removed. The hardest part is getting the tools exactly where you need them.
