Hey everyone,

I just got my Clairon NZ500 in yesterday, and I started installing it. The instillation instrucutions kind of suck. But i connected all of the wires to the unit as i thought they should go so far except for the parking break and reverse wire. The instructions say that if you don't hook those up you can't use any of the video features, but at this point because of time i just want to get the radio working for now. I have hooked in the antenna the speakers. I have a the power wire going to the battery for now, and i have the unit grounded to the ground back behind the radio where there are two other ground wires grouded to a bolt. I assumed that since i have power and ground to the unit it should kick on. However i cannot turn the unit on, and it shows no sign of power. Is there something i am missing or a trick to getting it to start to the first time? Or is the unit not working and needeing to be returned. Also is there any online installation guide that is a little better than just the crummy diagram in the instructions.

Did you buy a wiring harness or are you wiring everything to your stock harness?
If you didn't buy a wiring harness I suggest you do. It will make you installation a whole lot easier. You pretty much have to match each wire by color to connect them.

I'm not sure why it's not working, but bypass that parking break. I don't remember exactly how to do it, but you get a normal relay and there's a certain way to wire it that bypasses having to have the parking break on to watch video. A local audio shop made the relay for me for free. I'd also suggest to use the wiring harness adapter

Turns out the harness i bought was faulty, brought it back and got a new one and it worked right away. The bypassing the parking brake is something i want to do does anyone have the write up to do so? While i never intend to watch a movie while driving, i still want to do the bypass because my car's parking brake doesn't work. If i engage it it looks up the back wheels because the wire doesn't release right, or somethign is messed up with the drums im not sure. But every time i engage it is gets messed up so i just never touch the pedal. I think that GM really blew it when designing that disk brake with the parking break shoe inside as a drum brake.
