Just joined this forum trying to find somebody with the same problem. bought the car 4 months ago- 2002 chevy impala ls 3.8 v6. replaced plugs, wires, coolant, water pump, thermostat, and coolant temp sensor when purchased. about 3 weeks ago the battery light flashes dings and then repeats no other lights are coming on just the red battery light. had my mechanic check it out and the altenator was going out, ok i thought replaced it but after a day or two it starts doing it again does not affect driveability but annoyying. radio display flashes when that happens has anyone found out the reason for this i love this car and i just want to get it fixed any help would be greatly appreciated

Did you ever change the battery? Are the connectors all clean? Grounds clean?

Do all of the gauges 'reset' like when you start the car?

If so, I'd guess the ignition switch is on it's way out...

Definitely check the battery and battery cables like Chibi points out

My 03 did this the other day. When I was on the highway, the red battery symbol illuminated and I heard a few chimes. But the light went out maybe 5 minutes later and I haven't had the problem again. I'm not sure wtf happened and and my mechanic said my charging system seems fine... Confused
