My drivers side power window sometimes hesitates when I push the button for it to go UP... It doesn't seem to hesitate when I push the button for DOWN only for UP... Usually I click the button a second time and then the window goes UP properly... I'm wondering if this is a switch problem, or the power window motor might be on its way south??... What's the best way to troubleshoot the switch versus the motor??... Thanks!!... (2001 Impala LS)

Hesitates as in starts and stops? Goes slowly? Doesn't do anything at all?

Hesitates as in: I click the switch for the window to go UP and nothing happens for a second or two and then the window goes up normally... Or, I click the switch and nothing happens so I click again and then the window goes up... Leads me to suspect the switch is not making good contact, but I'm not sure...

Sounds like a switch issue to me. In my experience when the motor goes it strains and makes noises without making much progress, whereas I have a bad switch in my Intrigue which requires several tries to get it to work.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking (hoping)... Do you know if individual switches can be replaced, or is it a whole switch assembly?

The driver's side switch is replaced as a unit and it's not cheap... you can try taking the door apart and cleaning the contacts with some electrical content cleaner to see if it helps.

I took the switch unit out of the door and removed the back... But it appears that to get to the switch contacts the switch buttons must be pulled or popped off so that the whole PCB assembly can come out... I'm a bit nervous to try to pop off the buttons and maybe break them... Any experience popping off these buttons?... What is the cost of a new switch unit?

EDIT: I see prices from ~$40 to ~$100 on RockAuto.com depending upon the brand... I wonder what the difference is between brands?

Hmm... I'm gonna have to see if the Intrigue's master switch comes apart like that. Nice find.

Following this procedure over the weekend and all windows work perfectly now... Only took about an hour (maybe less) and I work slowly... Great find, thanks!!
