hey forum. i have a 2004 chevy impala with 3.8 and it recently started saying low oil pressure when it would start up and go away right. today it started it doing it with the car being stopped at a red light. i was driving home when i noticed the car had the usual power and it did before. i was turning into my neighborhood when it stopped and now i try to turn it over and it doesnt crank at all. did this engine lock up on me? what could of happened? anybody have a similiar situation?

First things first... did you make sure there was oil in the engine?

Have you taken it to a mechanic? Are there any codes? have you done any oil changes? get a back pressure test done...... it sound like you should just take your car to a shop to get it checked out usually when the light pops up there it means something is wrong if you can t get it check out expect something to happen.

If he is jumping right to the switch/sensor, I'd like to assume that he has checked the oil level, but you never know with some of the newer members these days. Laughing

Sometimes the most obvious things are the last things we check.

Reminds me of one day trying to figure out why my DRL's, dash lights, etc., weren't working. Then I remembered, I had a 9C1 car and I checked the "surv" switch....sure enough, it was pushed in

D'oh!!. CURSE

Yeah I agree what's the deal? Hopefully you did check it and didn't mash up your engine. On another note, everytime I wash my engine the low oil pressure light comes on. I turn it off throught the radio.

There are some changes trough the years, if the engine came from a W body car, it will be easier to swap.
