Just cruisin' with a friend, I burned out on a turn and ran over something. Turned around to check it out and found the below piece of metal. Don't recognize it as being anything on my car but I haven't paid too much attention under there. I picked it up and noticed it was warm so i figured it might have come from under there.

Notice (s**t lighting) that it has rusted at all bolt points.

It looks like the heat shield that covers the resonator

x2 on the heat shield resonator. Was there a vibration sound in your exhaust for a little while?

The resonator shield on my 2003LS was smooth, not ridged, like he has pictured.

Take a picture of your resonator.

I find it hard to beleive you ran over your own resonator cover unless you were doing donuts, and even then... I don't think the geometry works out.

Chibi beat me to it. Found that it was exactly as long as my res. Damn. How does it go back on? I assume I have to find a replacement first though... this one kinda got flattened. Looked like it was bolted but that picture makes it look clamped on or spot welded.

And is it necessary? : )

Thanks!!

EDIT: From what i've been reading it's only there to keep your car from starting a fire in grass/etc beneath the car. I have parked in grass (<6") before, but don't make a habit of it.

I don't think it's 100% necessary, my GMPP cat-back resonator doesn't have any heat shields.

That heat shield is only there to collect water and help your exhaust rot out.

My res. must have been changed at some point. I remember it was smooth and just tack-welded at the sides.

either way, it's long gone and been replaced with the GMPP, which as others have already mentioned, doesn't even have a shield.

Thanks, all! I may decide to unbend it and tie it on... but probably not. : )
