Well I have the cassette/ cd player radio in mine and I us a cassette adapter to play songs of ipod and I was wondering if one of the newer models with the aux outlet would work so I could still do the necessary resets ( oil life and tire pressure) and also so I wont have thieves wanting to break in to get an aftermarket cd player.

Your initial post says you want to put an '00-'05 into an '06 and newer? Is this backwards?

I'm wondering the SAME thing...

Are you trying to put a 06+ radio into your 00-05? or the otherway around..?

It won't fit, plus I'm pretty sure the plugs are different and on top of that it's electronically incompatible. An aux input adapter (plugs into the back) isn't too expensive.

Some aftermarket peripherals will plug into the CD changer port on the back and utilize the Aux button as their access switch.

That should work. I had something similar made by US Spec before I finally upgraded to an aftermarket head unit.

wont work at all, the 00-05 uses a different communications system than the 06+, so the radio wont be able to communicate with the cars computers. If it cant communicate, it will remain locked.

Just get an aux input, or use the existing 1/8" mini plug input on the front of the HU to play your MP3 player.

If your MP3 player is an ipod/iphone and you want to charge your device while it plays, you can purchase a device that will do this for you. Check out the Peripheral iSimple. You will have to get the harness that is appropriate for your vehicle, but I have the iSimple in my Tahoe and it works great! Love being able to charge and listen to my iphone with a single cable.

Viking:
That device will work in your impala. I had that exact one in my impala and it worked great. The only downside is that you will be using the headphone jack on your ipod/iphone to feed the audio. It works great, but you will have to still use your cigarette lighter plug to charge your device.
I believe iSimple does offer a harness for the 03 impala....
