Hey guys,
My key fob has lost it's range over the past 12 years, to the point where I literally have to stand a good 10 feet from the car for it to work, which makes the remote start useless. I've explained this before on this forum but not anyone really understands how it works. I have the factory remote, and all you have to do is press "Lock" 3 times within 5 seconds and it will start the car, so having to stand 10 feet in front of the car makes this function useless.

My main question is, where can I purchase a new remote? I've tried replacing the battery in my remote multiple times to no avail. I only have one remote as well, we lost the second set when we moved down to NC 3 years ago..

Thanks for help in advance.

sounds like it's time for a new impala, LOL seriously, i picked up a few brand new remotes off ebay for my 07, and programmed them all at once. now i have 2 spares should mine ever get sent through the washer. are you sure it's the remote? i guess 10 years of getting it's buttons pushed is enough. peace, john

The remote may just be going bad after all those years.

Look on ebay for a remote, just make sure the FCC ID on the back matches! You can probably find one for $10 or so. Programming is easy, instructions can be found in your owners manual.

Thanks for the replies John and MISHNAH.
@John - I'm hoping it's just the remote..and we've seriously been considering moving this car out as it's going to need a lot of money thrown into it soon. Just a quick list (wheel hub(s)..getting intermittant service traction system soon no abs or traction control, going to need manifolds soon, needs oil pan and valve cover gaskets, a/c compressor is starting to make a loud noise, will be needing tires soon, will be needing a steering rack in the near future, tie rod ends, rotors, and the list goes on...)

@MISHNAH- I hope the remote's going bad and it's not the little module under the windshield next to the windshield defroster. Programming is done through the factory head unit correct?
