I'm redoing my a/c system and needed a new condenser. Tried to order a OEM Delphi but all the stores would take a week to get. Got an aftermarket one at Advance Auto, picked it up and went WTF!!! Its the chinese bullsh1t version of it. Rolling Eyes Single-pass instead of a dual-pass core, trash!!!

Called the parts dept at the Chevy dealer close to me to get a quote on the condenser, guy asked if I was a shop, and I said no, personal. Then I joked if he could give me the shop discount. Laughing He told me $243, then said he'd give me 20% off, making it $194 plus tax. Very Happy

Going to pick it up for $210, ordering on RockAuto or the local stores would have been around $150 to $180 and a week of waiting, so doesnt really cost me that much more to get it right now. Ahhhh cant wait to have a/c in this damn Texas heat!!! Laughing

Next time you need a part quickly, give the dealer a call and joke about a "shop discount", you might get a good parts guy and get lucky. It'll probably still be more than other places, but the time saved can be very well worth the money!

Good Deal, dude. looks like you found one of the secrets to buying parts.

another secret:
Get to know the parts guy by first name and when he knows you by first name.. it is surprising what kind of discount you can get.

Sort of like Z-Spot.. He knows we are a NAIOA Member, so he gives us a break on parts. Right.

Good find.

I went to San Antonio once... that's all the Texas I needed. Too damn hot.

I have been getting discounts in the 20-25% range since I was a teenager, spanning several cars and several dealers of several manufacturers, domestic and asian. It's the one common thread between them. One dodge dealer, way back inthe late 80s and early 90s was giving me more than that but the parts girl eventually moved away and they stopped doing that, saying she wasn't supposed to. I always walk away from dealers that don't give me discounts.

Funny story, the parts guy name is Matt too. Laughing Isnt your last name Knapp? Because thats the dealers name Laughing I need to shop more with you haha, but time is money, and its hard to wait on certain items.

I might drop the $250 plus tax on the AC Delco radiator they have. Got one from Advance for $110 but it just feels a whole bunch cheaper. Confused

Doesn't help me in TN. More often than not, the parts guy at my local dealer gives me prices 20% higher than the GM list price...

Does he think that he works at a BMW dealer? Laughing Been on the bmw forums, and it seems some dealers are friendly, but some almost double their prices haha.
