PostPosted: Mon Jun 06, 2011 2:25 pm    Post subject: Question Led conversion questions Reply with quote

1. Should it be a pain in the ass to disassemble the door lock switch when doing an led conversion? It took more elbow grease than i thought should be necessary and i broke a clip (on a test one).

2. Any tips for resistor placement/etc?

Thanks in advance!!

It's a royal PITA. I attempted to do mine and couldn't even get the damn things open. Fortunately for me, Hotsauce was still doing LED conversions when I wanted mine done, so I just sent them off to him.

They are a piece of cake. All the lock and windows buttons are easy.

What are you trying to find out? Polarity for the LEDs?
BTW ive done alot of controls, so the window lock is easy.

I meant door locks. Is there a better way to open them up than how it looks like one is supposed to? Do you have any pics of resistor placement/etc?

I haven't touched the driver side yet... i'm hoping it's not bad.

EDIT: Just tried to open another door lock and broke the 2 top clips. Pissed off too... lol.

Put it back together and it clicked in pretty well... still, do these just have really s**t design or am i doing it wrong?

How did you do the driver side window switches? There are two bulbs that seem pretty hard to get to...the one in the middle of all four switches, and the one for the mirror control..

also, what about the ones in the headlight control switch?

Ill answer both questions.
To open put your 2 fingers under the top of the button and pull back. It will be fine. Give it alil tug and it will come off.
The door locks are very easy. Cut out the old bulb. Place the resistor and solder it. Then solder the neg leg of the LED then solder the pos leg of LED to resistor.
I can get you pictures.

For the window control. You need to take the X plastic piece out. and take the white separator off the back. Ill get pics posted tomorrow. Very simple. After you do the LED on this, you will need to place the X piece back. I had to shave some of the plastic piece off for it to fit.

Ok Ive NEVER posted these because they were for my eyes only, but ill share the wealth.

I have more.

Thanks for the pictures, very helpful for those who haven't done it before. BTW, are there lights in the back window switches? Both mine are out if there are....

Oh, and I got the one done for the window lock button, but I can't seem to get to the one in the middle of the four switches, or the one in the center of the round button for the mirror control. Those, along with the dimmer switch are the last bulbs in the car that are not LED.

Thanks very much HotSauce!!

And Billy, no, there aren't in the rear for some reason. I have an extra set of everything but the driver side and was confused when the first switch I pulled apart didn't have a bulb.

Where do I put my other hand? (sounds sarcastic but do I hold the plug in of the white part? I destroyed the clips on one trying to push the clips in and do something of the likes you say)

There is a way... it;s just whether its worth it to you. You could tap off of the courtesy lights or whatever controls them.

A new question: how could one tap off the courtesy lights/what makes them come on and off? From the source that is.

You can make the rears work, I have.
Maybe I should make a video on how to do one window control.
