Well I know what my problem is now I just have a couple of ?'s. My driver side rear door lock actuator is shot. Wont lock with the power locks and its a pain to unlock with out it. Anyways, anything hidden to get the door panel off? and are there any plastic clips i will need to replace to reinstall the door panel? Lastly I found a couple actuators online but does anyone have any 1st hand thoughts on any? Should I go OEM? Thanks
Ahhhh, fun times ahead. Have had the pleasure of changing the driver rear and passenger front thus far.
IIRC, there are three or four plastic clips that need to be popped out, a couple of screws requiring Torx heads - one under the door handle and the others under the black rubber cover in the armrest. Unplug the connector at the power door lock switch.
Once the panel is off - will have to carefully cut the sealant on the foam insulation to access the innerds of the door.
There are three Torx screws that hold the actuator. Have to pop the clip that holds the threaded rod from the outside handle. Have to figure out how to finagle, twist, and cuss properly to get the inner door lock rod disengaged from the lock assembly and the assembly disengaged from the inner door handle. Somewheres along the line I remember removing the outer door handle for better access - really small hands would be a plus in this job.
Be sure to remember how everything comes apart, because it's not real obvious when trying to go back together. The order of assembly needs to be the reverse of the successful order of disassembly. You'll probably break at least one of the door panel clips - I suppose replacements are available, but I did without. No rattles yet.
Would recommend the OEM assembly, none of the generic offerings looked close even though they were offered as acceptable substitutes. Might hit up forum member ZSPOT at the Briggs Auto link under vendors - I felt I got really good prices for OEM equipment, and outstanding service & delivery.
If it's any consolation - the front door assembly went much easier, either due to experience gain on the rear door, or a lot more working room
