Your going to get 100 different answers and a bunch of questions. It really depends on age of engine and what viscosity your going to use.

Obviously synthetic is generally a better oil, but it has it's downfalls too. Best thing to do IMO, is to go here: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/cms/ and then make your decision. Once you pick an oil you like, send a used sample off to get tested. That's the only way to know the state of your engine and if your oil of choice is doing the job.

Royal Purple for most, Castrol euro formulation Syntec for turbos. Mobil 1 diesel for diesel. K&N filters for everything. That's how I fill.

Amsoil, royal purple, castrol...in that order. You could spend millions of dollars in testing, which has been done, and still not have a winner when it comes to oil. Too many variables. I just never buy the cheap crap.

The best oil is clean oil.
Buy the best you can afford, dino, synthetic-blend or full synthetic and change often.
(with correct viscosity and proper quality rating of course)

Agreed. I'm running whatever brand regular I feel like 5w30 in the impala and will be putting synthetic in the taurus next oil change.

I have always used Pennzoil and had good luck in all my cars. But it all comes down to personal preference.

You've got 9 year old car. Go with whatever the cheapest dino oil you can find and replace it every 4k miles or so.

Spending money on a synthetic is wasted money. Save it for the other maintenance you'll need. Its not like you're running a low tolerance, high horsepower engine at extreme temperatures and speed for long periods of time.

I've been using RP for a while now with no problems. I change once every 3,000 miles. RP claims more power from it, but they're full of s**t. Laughing

We put AMSOIL fully synthetic in my car at 100k miles for the first time and it was the worst thing ever. I did a great job cleaning out the motor sure, so much that my oil pan and rear valve cover gaskets now leak, dreading doing them because you have to drop the subframe to do the oil pan gasket, and to get the rear valve cover gasket, that's gonna be a bitch too. If you aren't having an issue with the oil you're using now; why change it.

Good ol' Castrol 5W-30 (dino). My car has 105K on it and I've put the last 25K on it.
