I honestly have no idea what can be causing this other than moisture getting into some electrical connection somewhere. 2002 Impala LS 105k mi. Alright, so when it rains for a while (a day or longer) with the car sitting outside in the driveway and I go to start it when its cold, it starts, idles rough sometimes, and if I go drive it, it sputters and breaks up. The check engine light will either blink on and off or just come on and stay on. It did it yesterday and I shut the car off before the light came on. I realize once it comes on I should scan it, but has anyone had this happen to them before? It's kind of annoying not being able to drive the car if it rains overnight.

On a fine day you need to get a spray bottle of water and mist your plug wires and around the coils. If it screws up, you have found your problem. Also an open engine bonnet at nite mite give you a light show if the wires are getting bad. take my advice,,,,DON'T TOUCH THEM.... Laughing

well, maybe. but he was just checking the snugness of his plug wires and before i could really say anything to him he did the "yank the arm away from the engine jump up and down yelling in pain" thing. potentially serious, yes, but as it wasn't it became funny. i still ask him to check my plug wires 25 years later. peace, john

stock intake system. I'll double check the snugness of the plug wires and the coil too. On a nice day I'll give the spray bottle a try. It's kind of weird, it started doing it a few hundred miles ago.

I got the car scanned from someone at a local garage I know. It read there was a misfire at Cylinder 4. We've been getting hit pretty hard with rain in New England lately, and I took it to work today and it progressively got better but when I come up to a hill and the engine lugs/downshifts it does it realllllly bad. I heard a loud POP over the radio and everything going up a big hill. The CEL never came on and the temp was good. Any other ideas?

I sprayed #4 coil plug wire with windex and nothing changed. Confused
