When I removed the fill cap to the power steering pump I herd a slight pop sound (engine was warm at the time). Indicating that the reservoir was under a small amount of pressure. Is this normal? I always assumed that the cap was vented. Thanks for your help.
There is also a rubber gasket under most power steering caps, should seal it off.
I have an aluminum cap I use to pull vacuum on power steering pump for air evac,it seals with simply an oring so I imagine the rubber gasket on the cap does a nice job of not allowing it to vent pressure buildup.
But yet with any car I've ever owned, I can start the engine, remove the cap, let it run for 5 minutes, turn the steering wheel from side to side, & never spill a drop of ps fluid. So to me, there is no pressure build up. GARY
