So what I did for now is I just left the other half of the box in their and threw on the intake from autozone (Spectre air filter with a 4" tube) to the factory inlet. Works like a charm and I didn't have to spend $100+, that was the good part. I'll get that blazer pcm holder this weekend and put that in there to hold the pcm. feels good to be doing my own stuff again just the good ol' days back when i had a honda, lol.

Used my iphone to shoot the pics and they came out blurry...

Whole engine shot (i know it's dirty)

That's a hot air intake. It needs to boxed, put in the bumper, or fender.

It's a 3 inch tube.

as far as a hot air intake - yes having a CAI would be perfect. at idle yes it would get a few degrees too hot but while driving with the air coming in right at the box, well it could be arguable. all i know is i'm not the only one here with an exposed air intake.

i'll have to look around for a 4 inch tube but that was the biggest i could find at my local autoparts store.

What's a downgrade? the intake? do you have any ideas as far as upgrades? i've been waay out of the game too long as far as tuning and especially working with an american car i would like to get some ideas and help with the impala - hence the reason i joined NAIOA.

thanks for the comments and any help is appreciated!

My intake bends down below the headlight and the conical filter is in the bumper.

The PCM is strapped down with: a bungie cord. Has been for about 3 years now.

ya you can look at my intake in my profile, goes right under the headlight.
my tube is 3'' and looks much bigger then your, ohwell.
you can go to a diesel shop and ask for 14-16'' of 4 '' diesel exhaust tubing. that way it is metal instead of abs plastic like mine.

the downgrade is the warm air intake. No arguments about it, the warmer the air, the less the power. yes its less restrictive, but sucking in the hot engine compartment air will actually lower your HP

What are your goals? A barely quicker naturally aspirated car like mine? Then look in my sig for some things and check zzperformance.com under grand prix.

Boost? Top-swaps or turbo are your answers there.
