So I drove another car the other day and I really liked how the doors shut very sound. No rattled and very soft. Is there a way to achieve this in our cars?

Dynamat (or a similar alternative) will help, but you won't get the nice sound you get from a quality built vehicle.

It was a pontiac vibe lol. What achieves this? Could a softer and bigger stop do it?

my doors were closing hard, so i sprayed the hinges etc with the lube junk got from gm cleaning monkey, they open super quiet now and dont close so hard, now when i drop someone off they dont slam my door on accident all the time lol.
everyone think these car arent quality drive a 99 sunfire GT(got it back in 03) THAT was a poorly built car!and it was"fully loaded".. for the price you can pickup a 3-5 year impala cant complain on what you getting(in my opinion)

Sometimes the truth hurts. The OP is driving a 10 year old W-Body (as am I) and it's starting to rattle and creak and make all sorts of noises. It's a combo of it being a W-body and old... not a great mix.

I'm not quite sure if I worded that right, what I mean is its not creaking or making any noises when being shut. I'm talking about when it fully shuts and hits the car it seems to hit so hard and loud. Kinda like there's not much cushion. I know this is normal, but I was wondering if there's anything I can do to make it like a newer car. I get home late a lot and just closing the door seems super loud. I really liked how that vibes door shut. You couldn't even really hear anything.

Yeah... Dynamat will help you achieve that to some extent. I did it to the doors on one of my older cars and it helped a bit, but not enough to justify the expense.

Does anyone know why the newer car's doors shut quiet? Better stops? I'd think dynamat would help a little, but I can't see it doing much. Any I'm darn sure that Pontiac Vibe didn't have really good door insulation.

They're probably pretty light doors on the Vibe. Light doors and newer cheap cars in general have to have their doors slammed to actually close.

The Impala has notching in the door parts that help you close the door and hold it open at 1 or 2 different points.

The doors basically close themselves. I pull mine closed just beyond the point where they begin to swing in on their own, and then I let go. They don't bang or rattle. Don't be mistaken into thinking they only weigh a couple pounds. Try seeing how little force you actually have to put into closing the door and actually have it latch: it's probably a lot less than you're using now.

Try checking to make sure you have all the seals around the door (including the one along the bottom of the door on the inside of the panel, which is more like a drip edge)

Tell your passengers to stop closing the doors like they have to on their '88 Civics.

Actually I do get upset when ppl slam my doors. I messed around with shutting the doors but even just so it barely latches its pretty loud. I don't mean loud as in way louder than an impala probably should be, but I'm just wondering why it is. Seems like it doesn't have any cushion when the door meets the car, which is why I was wondering about a different stop. All the seals are there too.

I have had horrible experiences with people slamming the door on my impala. I had a buddy slam the back door while the seat belt was in the way and it stuck into the door like a knife. My mom also did something similar on the passenger side but it just scraped really good. It was very upsetting.

What stops/cushion for the door besides the seals? I didn't see anything in the latch that looked not solid..
