I've got an intermittent starting issue that I've had since I got the car a few years ago. The bcm was replaced to fix other problems. When the car doesn't start, the security light flashes and if I wait 10 or so minutes, the car starts right up.

I'm assuming this is a passlock problem. I'd like to disable passlock via the powertuner. Anyone know what I need to do? If necessary, I can post up screen caps of some of the spreadsheets.

EDIT:
I assume if I change the "VTD_Present_On_Car" value to 0 from 1 that the vehicle theft deterrent would be disabled.

I believe that is the way to do it. You need to disable some DTC's as well IIRC (no idea which ones though)

Unfortunately using a tuner to disable passlock in the PCM might not work.
Something in the BCM will still trigger it.
Not sure how it happens, especially when the PCM is programmed for no passlock but it does.
I've not had much luck tuning it out of V6 cars,i've done it to prob a hundred trucks with only one truck having an issue but not been successful with the V6's.
Might be a trigger I don't know about also, don't do alot of V6 cars.
On my wife's 04 LS programming it out via the PCM did not work.
And i've read where others have not been successful either.

This is via TCII,not HPtuners or powrtuner though.
I know we have much more available then HP,not sure about powrtuner.

If someone with another tuning suite has been successful plz post up,would love to know if i'm missing a table so I can add it in.

Also,if you have a VATS/passlock fault and program it out via the PCM-it will still show the security light when the fault is present due to the BCM reading the fault.
At least on GM trucks it will, truck will bypass VATS and start/run fine-but the security light trigger comes from the BCM pretty sure cause it will stay up.

Hope something in there helps.

Also, there should be 3 choices on the VATS/Passlock option.
0,1 and 2- one of them will be for "None" another will be for "Serial" and another will be for PWM

*Checked a 2000 3.8 camaro and wifes 04 LS and it has
0=Enabled 1=No Light 2=Disabled

Trucks use a different system, sorry for confusion.

I haven't tried it yet but there is a table for relearn time for the VTD. I wonder if setting that lower than the 10-11 minutes that it takes now could help get the car started sooner when the passlock does decide to go on the fritz.

For the record, HP Tuners won't help you any with it. Not familiar with power tuner though. But I doubt it will be much different of a case here. You know just how playful the BCM and security system like to be in our cars.

I know when we had the houston meet, sabrewings tried doing that to 2000lsxwannbes car IIRC. Although he wound up bricking 2000lsx pcm because 2000lsx battery had a really low voltage.

Some quick reading shows that some people are successful using TCII,yet some are still stubborn as a 3.8 can be.

The listed options might actually have different meanings then seems stated.
To attempt you must also limit injector disable time for VATS to zero.
If your VATS type is 1,change it to 0,if it is 0 change to 1.
Input all related DTC's to no error reporting.

It'll either work or it won't.
Some people seem to have been successful just by shutting off related DTC's and setting VATS injector disable time to 0.0 seconds.

While they are labeled differently, this MIGHT be true of what the labeling could actually mean.
0 = VTD system present in vehicle
1 = No VTD System (BCM connected)
2 = No VATS (No BCM)

Hope the info helps someone.

Tiny Tuner should be able to do it. The latest version has the VTD injector disable time mapped out.

Lowering the VTD auto learn timer table might do it, you may need to lower the VTD auto learn counter too.

Zeroing out the injector disable time has never worked for me,nor has removing the DTC's.
I've always zero'd injector disable time, chose option "None" and disabled DTC's.

On a few V6's i've flashed for it did not work at all.
Have flashed a few more but not sure if it worked or not.

I'm hoping for someone that's been successful with it to post up what's worked for them.

My wife's car has a bypass for the remote start, but at time's the passlock would still fail.
Took me round and round.
By the time I figured out what was wrong and repaired it,the starter was going.
Of course the wife simply said "Car ain't fixed, still won't start sometimes".
Went thru it all again before it finally happened to me and I realized it wasn't a security issue.
argh!

A simple trick is just pulling the BCM fuse in the side dash whenever it occurs. Car always cranked up after doing this whenever my passlock acts up.

I tried disabling the vats in my pcm a month ago and the car would shut off after 25 seconds each time.
