2007 Chevrolet Impala

PostPosted: Thu Feb 17, 2011 11:06 pm    Post subject:  Coming to you from the GTA... Reply with quote

Just drove home tonight in my new (used) 2007 Impala LS! Has 56k km on it (that's about 35k miles for you yanks). My Dad has an '06 LT, so I'm used to the car, and am familiar with some of the associated problems (plus the Impala is one of the cheapest cars to insure).

A little history on my car ownership:

Traded in my 2000 Altima on the Impala, which I bought a little over a year ago. Car was falling apart on me - Had no heat, tires were bald and clutch was gone, to name a few things. Vowed not to dump money into this like I did my first car.

Now my first car, was an 1986 Cadillac Deville Fleetwood. Not one of the big boats, but the smaller one with the front wheel drive and HT4100 V8 (which motivated the car from 0-100 km/h in about 10 minutes Laughing ) I had a love/hate relationship with this car. I loved the way it drove, but hated the way it would break down on a monthly basis. Ended up wasting a lot money on this car, but there's still no denying it had its charms. And it's true, nothing drives like a Caddy.

And now, I've got a nice new(er) automobile that I intend on keeping for a long time! No more wasting money on beaters (like someone pointed out in another thread here). Purchased a 4 year/40k bumper-to-bumper warranty with the car, and when they certified the car they put new brake pads, and machined the rotors, as well as two new front tires (rear ones are at about half life, I'd estimate). So hopefully all I have to do is change the oil, and an occasional bulb.

My apologies for the long intro, but I'm looking forward to hanging around here, though I'll probably lurk more than post Razz

Welcome to the forum! I'm from kitchener and there is a handful of members from the GTA, surrounding areas, and just across the border.

Greater Toronto Area. Toronto is a victim of epic suburban sprawl.

Pretty soon the "Greater Toronto Area" is going to encompass all of Southern Ontario Rolling Eyes

I actually live in Toronto, I just say GTA out of habit, for some reason.

I was thinking the city where we beat hookers with baseball bats, steal people's cars and do jobs for people leading to world fame.

Thanks everybody! Finally got a picture taken, but unfortunately my car is already dirty, even though I've only had it about 5 days, lol.

It was nice and clean when I got it, dealership washed and waxed, and vacuumed it out. But Oh well, it's winter, what are you going to do. I'll take better pics next time I wash it.

I was ticked off this weekend though, the check engine light came on! It went off again though like a day later, so I'm not sure what that's about, going to give it a couple weeks and see what happens.

I have a scanner if you want to check the code when you are in Kitchener sometime.

Thanks, I may take you up on that someday. Problem is the light went away, so it wouldn't show anything right now, would it?

I was talking to the old man, and he was saying he had a problem with his fuel sensor (or something similar, I can't remember exactly what he said. Had something to do with vapours in the tank).

The light didn't come on until the car was under half a tank of gas. It went under while I was driving, but the light didn't come on until I started it next. Then a day later when it was under a quarter tank the light didn't come on when I started it next. I'm thinking it may have something to do with fluctuating temps.

I believe codes are stored for while, but I'm not sure for how long.

I have a scanner aswell, I live around Newmarket, if that's any closer to you.

Codes are stored. I don't think the car will clear them on it's own unless the battery is disconnected for some time. BBEngineer probably knows a little more about it.
