2001 Chevrolet Impala

PostPosted: Sat Nov 06, 2010 9:43 am    Post subject: Snif ! Troubled 2001 IMPALA Reply with quote

Hi members, I have a 2001 Chevy Impala, 3.4L. I get a random hesitation on take off. At high speeds 60-75 mph a heavy spudder like its misfiring at a steady pace. Installed new plugs and wires, coils, fuel pump and filter, air filter, throttle position sensor, vehicle speed sensor and pcv valve. No code or lights. One mechanic looked at it and said he saw a history of random misfires but could not pinpoint the problem. Can I be the only one to have this problem? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks for looking, Loveachevy.

May be a failing catalytic converter. Do a back pressure test on it.

Welcome to the forum!

I agree with catalytic converter failure and getting a back pressure test.

An exhaust shop or the dealership will be able to perform a back pressure test for you. If the catalytic converter is indeed failing, be aware that an aftermarket or high-flow converter can cause warning lights in the dash and make the car fail an emissions test.

I hope you didn't replace all those parts hoping you would fix this misfire issue! If you stopped by earlier we probably could have saved you money.
