Anyone think it's wise to buy and strip parts from a gtp with 96k miles in order to do a top swap to an 2002 9c1 impala? It's so tempting. Guys? Honest opinions.

Complete car? Depending on condition and price that's probably what I'd do, though I would probably just swap the whole engine/tranny if I had a complete donor car.

The nice thing about having a donor car is you have everything you need and you could swap the entire drivetrain or just grab what you need and no guessing what you might need as it is all there minus anything Impala specific.

Keep in mind there is more to it than throwing on the top swap parts in order to get it to function properly on your 2002

There's more to it than the pcm with the pre 03 cars. But if the price is right for the parts, (or the whole car) then yes, it is probably worth it. You can buy the whole car if it's cheap enough and sell the rest off when you are finished

You are gonna need an 03+ transmission as well to run the SS PCM. It's way more complicated than swapping the heads, LIM and UIM on earlier Impalas.

Not necessarily. Read this thread and see if you want to tackle the job.

GTP BCM and PCM are useless on an Impala...

You can only use a Monte or Impala BCM (and a used BCM is somewhat useless unless you reprogram the VIN in the PCM, radio, SDM, etc) and a PCM with a compatible serv code running an Impala or Monte BIN file

i feel your pain. I found out its cheaper to buy a 3800 impala then to swap engines in mine. At least u have the 3800... and the highly sought after gear ratio
