Tonight I started in on changing the plugs, wires, and was gonna put a 6$ air filter in until I could get to the big city where they carry stuff like "that new fangled ASM pipe". I got a bit distracted. I have a 2 prong connector that is hanging down on the back side of the motor from the harness between the alternator and the coil packs. It has a orange wire and a pink wire with a black stripe. The connector says PED 64, if that means anything. Checked all over that area, I am wondering if the wires going to a hood work light might plug in here. Anyone have a impala with a under-hood light?

well going off really no info i'd say it may be the connector for the secondary air pump. some emissions thing. I have a connector around the same location that i was worried about too. But chances are don't worry. Also I don't think any 2000-2004 impala has a underhood light. good luck.

I don't really know what else to give ya as far as info, if there's something I am leaving out that will help then please just ask...

IffyG - that does look like the culprit, however I believe the coil pack wire connectors look like that as well. I am guessing if it was a coil pack wire I would notice a bit of a performance change...

I'm almost willing to guarantee its the secondary air pump connector. If you car doesn't have the California emissions package you have an extra connector back there. Most people (including myself) have a WTF moment when they find it.

It costs a lot less money for a manufacturer to use the same wiring harness in as many cars as possible than to eliminate unneeded connectors...If there's nothing in the vicinity to plug it into, and there are no new problems or warning lights on, don't worry about it... Idea ...Ben

Its nice to know others have had that same Oh s**t Shocked . It makes me feel like I am not alone in this great big world... Thanks everyone who helped. I am impressed with the response time that I have gotten. I have posted in other forums about a variety of stuff and seldom do I get a response in the hour much less multiple responses.
