The fuel guage reads about 1/8 full, then the DIC comes on and displays "Low Fuel". Ok, so how many gallons do I have left? My other car does this when there is 1 usable gallon left.

Search did not provide an answer.

If I fill up immediately after the low fuel light comes up in the Monte, the car takes 13.5 gallons. I think the tank holds 16.5 or 17, so there is at least 3 gallons left (at least on my car).

I drove from Baltimore to Carolina Beach with a full tank, when I got to Carolina Beach my light came on. I gas up and it took 15 gals meaning there were 2 or 3 gals left.

I've driven 60 miles after the light has come on without running out of fuel.

When the light goes on, why push it?

My daily drive is less than 10 miles round trip, so I have plenty of time to fill up, and I'm never far from a gas station if I need to make an emergency trip on foot.

I was being sarcastic with the 5 miles after thelight comes on but it is pretty bad though. I get approx. 19 mpg city..I'm guessing thats normal with LTZ's?

I'm sure there are posts here about milage with various motors. I don't really follow the engines in the 06+ models.

Otherwise, someone with a 3.9 may chime in. Expect some comments about your rims reducing milage.

Based on his sig he has some 22s on there. That's gonna kill your fuel economy by itself.

Yea thats part of the reason I took the rims off and put back on the factory 17" wheels. Not only did it drive like a tractor with them on but it killed my fuel economy and nearly destroyed my transmission. I wouldn't recommend puting anything above 20" rims on any Impala new or old.

Thank you for the replies. I have my answer. My intention is not to "push it" as noted in one post. I merely wanted to know how much of a cushion I have after the light comes on. I usually fill up at the 1/4 mark but just wanted to know my options.

The first two years of ownership, I never paid attention to the light and usually got gas within 30 miles or so.

Then one day it died after 14 miles, in the middle of campus, on a busy friday afternoon, yeah that was fun pushing a large sedan, down the street and to the right and up a slight hill before dumping it on a sidewalk and walking a few miles to get gas. Laughing

Ever since, I really panic when that light comes on! If I'm more than 10 or 15 miles from a cheap gas station, I'll stop at ANY station and put in a gallon or two just for piece of mind. Laughing
