I've been trying to help this person with his no start problem, so i told him to get a new ignition cylinder as described in the thread about the no start security issue. does anyone have any ideas? he sent me this!
"Thank you so much for your time and helping me thru this ordeal. It is so nice of you.

I have the new cylinder from ebay as you suggested installed and I followed your instructions but it still is not starting.

First of all, I know I have a good battery and it has remained fully charged this whole time.

It took 3 - 10 minute cycles before any of the dash lights even came on. Then after the third cycle the dash lights, the wipers and turn signals all started working again and at the same time the security light started blinking like you describe.

So, I did 3 more 10 minute cycles with everything working normally and as you describe but the car still will not start. The security light never stops blinking even if I leave it for 20 minutes.

In order for the dealer to program the BCM I suppose I would have to tow it in.

Any other thoughts?

Much appreciated.

Thank you J

Jeff

Are you sure you are doing the Passlock relearn the right way? Don't open any doors, turn off all the lights, etc.

I had something similar with my 2000LS years back. I would remove the fuse for the BCM for about 2 minutes, put it back in and it would start every time. Never did find out why and it was only intermittent. Turned off the security system thru the radio and have been fine since.

Guess he figured it out, sent me this(he thinks i'm a girl named amanda, i really gotta get my own email address)
Thank you again Amanda.

FYI and for the information of any others going thru the same ordeal.

It turned out to be a combination of the ignition switch and the BCM.

I tried just the ignition at first with no luck. Seemed like every time I tried it the symptoms kept getting worse and worse until everything electrical was dead.

I am pretty handy around cars and I am an electrician and contractor but because of the BCM acting so sporadically and untraceable it made these issues hard to isolate and I did not want to pour my hard earned money into something that I did not need.

I paid $45 for the used ignition thru ebay and $120 for a refurbished BCM from a local auto parts store which seems fair for both but then had to pay the local Chevy Dealer a whopping $228 just to program the BCM that I installed.

Thanks again for your assistance. The car is up and running fine again but I do intend on selling it ASAP.

Jeff
