im trying to fix some rust on my 01 ls and cant seem to get the rear bumper to come off. i removed all the fasteners in and around the driver side rear wheel well and i can pull it out a little to see the bottom end of a screw that looks like its holding it on past the filler neck up inside there but theres no way to get at the top of the screw. i really hope i dont have to remove the trim around the bumper to get at it. i just want to wedge the bumper out of the way on that side and paint it without dropping the whole bumper. anybody took one off? i just painted all the gray trim around the car, it would really suck if i had to try and pull it off. i dont think the paint would survive

I think I've seen some screws around the trim inside the gas door, but I've never personally taken my bumper off.

There are two nuts on either side of the bumper that you have to go through the trunk to get to them. (down in the wells of the trunk)

three plastic fasteners on top of the bumper just inside the trunk, three below in a similar position. two in each wheel wheel, and then six bolts inside the trunk that actually hold it in place, three on each side. you'll have to pull back the carpet to get to them. and once you get it off, be a mindful of the license plate lights. i think they're clamped on with about one screw each, something like that.

Yeah, there are some bolts you have to remove in the trunk.

Been there, done that. Very Happy Get the center of the bumper in position and use a few clips to hold it in, then work one side in at a time, all the while making sure the other loose side doesnt jump up and scratch the quarter panel.

I've taken my car apart and put it back together by myself, like a bumper could defeat me now....... Laughing
