The center console shifter in my car has no letters next to it... yanno P R N D ..etc....they are on the gauge cluster....but nothing next to the actual shifter...I thought this was odd especially since I was parked next to another impala the other day and noticed that they HAD the letters next to the shifter.....so did they stop putting the letters next to the shifter on some years or is something strange here??

Personally, I like the change. Makes the console look cleaner. Just my opinion. The redundant markings on the shifter bezel and dash are not necessary.

My 2003 LS doesn't have them neither, I have noticed a few differences between my 01 and my 03, like no glove box light on the 03, no letters on the shifter, no rear door security locks (who cares about them anyway), and IMO the sound system on the 01 is nicer than the 03.

I also like not having them. The console does look better without them.

If I ever get stumped, I can look at the dash.

That's ok, you don't have to reveal your age.
