I start cleaning my wife's 2005 LS. On the roof are two "trim" items. They run front to back one each side. Both are coming off. If it wasn't for the windshield and rear glass black trim inserts I'm sure they would have been blown off.

1.) Can I just use rubbing alcohol to remove the old "tape" residue?

2.) I just use 3M tape? Any specific type? What about that Loctite PowerGrabber tape?

3.) I probably won't be able to get to repair it till next payday- Can I just pull them off for the time being?

I just used some 3M trim adhesive on one of mine. The other one fell off long ago. I really don't see the point of these trim pieces.

They cover the welds on the roof.
