I'm thinking of selling my Impala and getting a 04-05 WRX. Just was wondering how is that car as a daily? Does anyone here have one ? Give me your two cents. I do care for my impala but it just about that time for something new(to me). Owner for 7 years

With a car that old, if you don't know that it was properly maintained, be prepared to have to fix it. Honestly, you should be prepared to fix/replace stuff anyway. I wouldn't plan to beat on it too much either. I'm not sure when they started making the wrx 5MT stronger but they have a bad reputation on most subaru forums.

Actually, we don't. There's one person who has a WRX from that era.

Here's one that I really like.
http://inlandempire.craigslist.....28826.html

You think if one is well maintained with about 80-100k miles you would have to shell out $ for repairs? I've always loved that car and been told its FUN to drive. Just don't want to pick up a ticking time bomb.

It looks like it was modded at one point so you can almost be certain that it was mildly abused. Things like wheel bearings, cv shafts, and diffs have much higher potential to fail when the car is beat on. Also, gear fluids should be changed on something that old.

Personally, I wouldn't buy something like that without knowing the person I was buying it from and how they drove and maintained the car.

Anything you buy is a ticking time bomb. Cars don't last forever. Some way longer than others, but never forever. Hell if i was going to buy a new car i would expect to have to put some money into repairs, just because it's new, doesn't mean it's perfect. Might be for a few months, maybe years, but something will always come up.

Modded anything are higher risk unless you can get a full history of the vehicle and know what the current condition of the vehicle is. Modded cars wear parts out faster, its a given.

The 5 speed manuals are weak, I wouldn't consider a WRX unless it was stock and had a history of proper maintenance. Not if you're worried about long term reliability and costs. The cars are quite reliable in general, but not if somebody half-assed install work or didn't maintain and care for the vehicle properly.

Yupp. And it's usually when they revert it to stock when they shortcut the hell out of the work.

Like the nitwit whom leased our '03 originally. I'm still chasing bugs out and doing repairs as I can afford to. Evil or Very Mad

Most Saab 9-2X/Aero cars I've seen haven't been flogged like its twin WRX/STi sisters have. Just sayin...
