(Edit note: these are the little cheapie tires that came with the wheel package, didn't quite have the money for the tires I wanted at the time of purchase, so these are not my permanent tires)

I wanted 18's to keep a clean stock look. Heard of too many possible problems with going with a bigger wheel that I just didnt want to gamble with. I think it turned out perfect. Not too drastic but just enough to make it stand out a tad...

Are those the right size tires? They look pretty small. Sunny Tires FTL.

To look right and not throw the speed sensor off too much, you might try for a size close in height to the OEM which was P22560/R16 (I'm assuming the OE size was the same as my '08)...It will fill up the wheel well better or you could go a size larger as I did on my recent change...

What size is on the new wheels now?... Idea ...Ben

245/40ZR18. I think the stock 06+ SS 18's have 50 series on there. Should I go with 50's if that's the case?

I think I would start by checking the tire spec sheets on the tire manufacturer's web sites to see what will fit the wheel width you have and try to pick one that has roughly the same diameter as OE or maybe a little larger...Also remember, the shorter the sidewall the rougher the ride... Exclamation ...Ben

punch your OE tire info into an online tire calculator, then find something with the same (or as close as possible) overall diameter. Just type Tire Calculator into google

I keep the most useful one I've found bookmarked for when someone has the wrong size tires on their car.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

To the OP, it's a bit more complicated than matching aspect ratios because its in relation to the tires width. The stock SS 18 size are 235/50/18s IIRC. You want something with a similar diameter as shown in the tire size calculator.

here's one of my favorites, lets you do rim specs too

http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp

came in handy when hunting for a wheel / tire set up on the wagon. Was able to work all kinds of back spacing issues and other dimensions

Another question, whats the best tires out there. I mean, I'm familiar with all the brands, just not sure which ones are actually the better ones.

Edit after inputing info in tire calculators: Believe it or not I'm not that far off but off none the less. I have 245/40's and to get back to my OE I would need 245/45's

Don't forget, you could go a size, maybe two, larger to fill out the wheel well a little better...Discount Tire's site has a list of recommended sizes they say will fit with no rubbing...Pay attention to backspacing and wheel width dimensions, too...

After decades of railing against the french because I despise their politics and ingratitude and loathe their laughable battlefield prowess, it turns out they make a decent tire...I've gotten 80,000 trouble-free miles from the Michelins on my Dodge so far and am happy with my choice of Michelin for my Impala... Cool ...Ben
