Was at the junkyard yesterday and found a 2000 Impala, it was a 3400 so definitely not a cop car, but there was another light switch lying on the ground next to it. Picked it up and it was from a 9C1 and it had the Surv Mode switch! In contrary to the Fog Light button (not a switch), this actually is a switch.

One of these days I'm going to install it, just going to splice into one of the headlight wires so it can only be on when the lights are on.

If you're putting foglights in your car, try to buy or find a surveillance mode switch for that stock look. Smile

so its not a momentary switch like the fog light one where you press it and it pops back up. you push this it stays down or something?

Hmm... could you use this so that the fogs are on whenever the headlights are on?

Ok, so I picked up a surv switch at the local chevy for $23, does anyone have a wiring diagram handy to help hook this thing into my fog light?

Yes, it actually stays down and closes the circuit.

I was planning on testing it today, but I cant find the switch Laughing My tools and spare parts are in between two vehicles and my apt right now, doh!

I've been studying the wiring diagrams, looks like the best way will be to wire it into the Headlamp Relay so that it will only work when the BCM commands the low beams on. That way the fog lights wont work when the lights are off, so no risk of draining your battery by accident.

why not just wire the foglights to a relay thats tripped by the parking lights? they come on with the lows at night and would be off during the day with the drls (if you still have them) are on... thats how i have mine wired

You could wire them up to the Park Lamp Relay also, there are many places in the car where you could get a ground when the lights or ignition are on.

Here is the pin-out for the Surv Mode switch, both for the switch, and for the connector.

Switch Back - Latch at top
--- --- ---
| B | C |
| A | D |
----------

Connector - Latch at top
--- --- ---
| C | B |
| D | A |
----------

A - Ground (for surv mode switch)
B - Ground (for lighting circuit)
C - IP Lamp Supply Voltage (for lighting circuit)
D - Surv Mode Signal (normally grounds to the BCM, but in a retrofit can be connected to the fog lamp relay ground)

To power the fog lamp relay, connect the relay coil ground wire to D, then connect a wire from A to any ground on the dash.

For switch lighting, easiest would be to connect C to a gray wire on the headlamp switch, and ground B to a black wire on the headlamp switch.

You can also connect the lighting wire C to a wire coming from the foglights in order to show you when the lights are on.

I should have another switch soon, as well as some harness connectors. In order to install this into a base Impala, you will either need a LS-style headlamp switch with the hole for the switch, or you can drill out your headlamp switch from the back in order to make the hole for the switch.

Took apart a Surv Mode switch and a regular Fog light switch tonight.......I now have the world's first working Impala Fog Light switch ever! Twisted Evil

Now to figure out how to wire it to indicate the lights are on, as well as the regular lighting. Smile

Since you have an SS, you dont need this since the SS BCM already controls the foglights.

The only benefit of having a real switch on a LS/SS is that the fog lights would always be on when the switch is pressed and the car is running, instead of having to press the button each time you start the car to turn them on.

I'm not sure if this would mess with the BCM as it expects a momentary connection to turn them on or off, and a constant closed circuit might work fine, or it might send the BCM into an on/off spasm. Laughing

Then you'd need to splice into the fog light relay ground wire going to the BCM.

You'd wire in the new switch, and just leave the old fog light switch and wiring tucked in the dash.

I got ahold of a surv mode switch, and want to wire it into my LS so I can use the switch to make the fogs come on with the running lights if the switch is pressed in. I want to bypass the BCM making the switch directly power the fog light relayt. Does anyone know where I could tap into the coil side of the relay possibly under the dash at the BCM?
