I have the exact problem described in this post, (Wipers stop or park straight up) http://www.naioa.com/v2/module.....mp;t=26086

But the issue is a broken spring clip that attaches to the catch. It's that little brown piece of metal in the last photo pointing up. Any idea if I need that whole assembly? what parts do I need to fix it?

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I'm glad you were able to use my picture to explain your problem, but I'm sorry that no one could offer a solution.
Generally, there are no repairable parts on the wiper system. You usually have to replace the wiper motor or the wiper transmission. I'm not sure which it is in this case. Have you checked with the dealer? And another place to look is Ebay. I found this searching "Impala wiper motor". That could be it.

Thanks for the reply. I was actually able to find just the transmission part brand new on Ebay. It's new old stock from 02 and back then it was called the park mechanism, part #12494832

Good find!
What would we do without Ebay.

My problem was the tab being bent. Now this tab is hefty, I can't imagine how it could have gotten bent. I needed a small drift and a hammer to bend it in (upright) to contact the cam in the park position. This tab must engage the cam for the wipers to park. Thanks to all, I couldn't have figured it out without you !

That tab is hefty, isn't it. I wondered the same about how it got bent. I've had to straighten mine twice now.
