Hi, this looks like a great site and I'm glad I found it. I am a long time Impala lover and have a 94 9C1 and a 96 SS I recently bought a 2002 Impala for my daughter and today I'm replacing the fuel pump. I found the service door in the truck ,R&rR the pump but I can't get the retaining ring to seat.I'm a little more than paranoid to bang on it in fear of blowing myself up if I spark it. Any suggestions? special tool or trick?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Drain the tank, work it on with a punch and a rubber mallet, maybe a steel hammer. But be careful, the ring can be damaged easily. Its all about patience with those things. Chevrolet fuel pumps are some of the most expensive pumps on the market....for some reason they think so much of them.
Is it on and just not turning? It requires some careful wiggling to get the pump in and the collar lined up properly...I always turned it with a flat head screwdriver and a hammer (on the metal part of course).
