I was real close to trading my 2003 Impala LS with the Sport App. Package this week.

If you don't know, we had to replace the OEM engine in 2009 after the coolant leak ate the bearings with one out of a wrecked Buick with under 100K miles. I had the upper and lower intake gaskets and the water pump changed before they installed it, and I saw it with the intake off. The engine looked good.

Last month, the tranny began to crap out, so I had a local shop rebuild it. I now have a great shifting tranny with a 6 month/6,000 mile warranty.

And, the MAF problem, was just a defective part. Now it's fine, with no CELs.

The car has 71,000 miles on the 100,000 mile engine with the rebuilt transmission. We can have all of our family debt paid off by next April, except for our house. That means a lot to us.

The car seems better than ever now, and I want to have confidence in it.

We can handle the occasional $1000 repair now.

I really like the looks, the safety, the room, and the power of the car. Should we be good to go for awhile now?

Does your car have the body color tail panels?

I think your car has become wholly unreliable and you should sell it to me for a dollar. I need a winter beater. Cool

Yep, it looks neat with those, along with the skirts. The interior is nice, too. It's silver with gray leather, with everything but the sunroof.

Trade it in for something more reliable. Mine started to have one thing after another go wrong and I just sold it.
I found quickly that it's not worth dumping money all the time into a car that has you wondering what will break next.
If you like size, comfort, and reliability, a newer used Camry could be something to look at that is way better than an Impala.

You already answered your own question. You're clearly satisfied with the car aside from fixing a handful of common issues and a couple that are less than typical.

If you sell it, It'd kind of be a waste of a lot of money, since you invested in it to fix it and it doesn't really have that many miles on it.. You can pick up similar 2003's here for about 4,000: a trade-in would be worth much less than you've put in.

How is the suspension?

I agree with Lingenfelter. Bailing on the car at this point is nothing more than a waste of money. Even if you have to make minor repairs here and there (which all cars require especially when they get to be the same age as your Impala) its still cheaper than picking up a car payment and increased insurance premiums.

I thought the same thing until a lady in her 60's thought I was taking a ramp too slow (I was @ full throttle in my LS) and blew around me in her Camry.

Tough to out-accelerate a car on which the accelerator is stuck Laughing That old lady probably had a deuce the size of Texas in her Depends.
