2005 Chevrolet Impala

PostPosted: Fri May 07, 2010 6:28 pm    Post subject:  Front End Questions Reply with quote

My 2005 Impala got a front end alignment, tire rotation and brake inspection at the same time. Car seemed fine. Then I noticed issue with tranny. Car would jerk. Car is under warranty. Rebuilt tranny put in car. Didn't work, so PCM module put in. GM said that part inside tranny needed repaired so it would sync up with PCM. Anyway, car now shifts properly, but i NOW feel some give in the wheel. When I'm driving straight down the road, I feel the steering wheel move a little...it just doesn't feel right. My warranty lasts another 16000 miles, so I need to get everything fixed now! Any ideas why I can feel the steering wheel shimmy just a bit periodically? THANKS!

They would have removed your transmission to rebuild it. They would have taken down your subframe to remove your transmission. They should have aligned your car after removing your subframe. Should have. When the subframe was re-installed, there is no way to get it into the exact same spot that it was in before, and moving, or shifting, the subframe is a commonly used alignment tool that can change your alignment numbers. You need another alignment.

you would think they would re-align it! I was just hoping it didn't sound like a bearing. It's hard to explain how the steering feels. it just gives for a minute. But yes, they put in a new to my car, but rebuilt tranny. My warranty covered it. That is good to know that they should align it again. That is reasonable to pay for!

When my steering wheel did that they ended up going in and tightening up the whole shaft. Don't know the details, it was years ago but it costed about $75.
