PostPosted: Wed Apr 21, 2010 1:05 am    Post subject:  2005 Impala Back Seat question Reply with quote

I was wondering if the fold-down back seats in the LS and above models would be compatible with a base Impala model. I'm in the process of putting in a sound system and the fold-down seats would make it so much easier to do.

Thanks.

I think the base models came optional with fold-downs. So I assume yes it'll work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the Impala's without the fold down rear seats have a big sheet of metal across the back that would need to be removed for the flip down to be useful?

Yeah I'm pretty sure they do.... but if it has to be done, it has to be done. Nothing that a little work with a sawzall wouldn't take care of.

I finally found out for sure that the Split Rear Folding Seats were an option on the Base Impalas. I found the archives for the 2005 Impala here: http://198.208.187.166/ca/gm/e.....mpala.html

It tells of all standard and optional features for the 05 Impalas. It says something about requiring up-level seat trim for the split rear folding seats but not too sure what it means off-hand.

My base has them as well - 2003 model. I'm not seeing how it's going to work very well though as you're going to have to install the anchors that the seats latch onto when they're upright not to mention the trim around everything.

Here's what the trim/latches look like:

here's what behind the trim looks like:

I guess it's doable... just going to be a lot of work. Good luck

EDIT: Are the seat belts any different with fold/down seats? I guess that shouldn't matter since the outside belts are beyond the folding parts and the center belt detaches.

There is NO metal support behind the back seat, the only thing you will have to do is cut out the fabric sheet that is behind your seat now.

If you get the seats at the junkyard, you will need the 4 bolts and 4 retaining nuts at the top of the rear seat from the donor car in order to bolt it in.

On the w-bodies, the tops of the rear seats are identical, but the bottoms vary. I have Regal seats and they fit perfectly, just that on one side at the bottom I cant bolt it down, doesnt really hurt anything.
