The other day I turned over my 01 base and got out, the keys snagged on my coat and pulled out....while the car was on.

so I reinserted the keys, and pulled them out with ease

Anyways, is this easy to fix or should I just leave it? because its kinda B.A.

It's an issue with your ignition cylinder. I wouldn't be surprised if you weren't able to start your car in the near future.

Thats what I'm conserned with, either jamming or the PCM thinking its the wrong key and setting the alarm off alot. I'm asuming that I'll be at a chevy dealer soon asking for part numbers.

FWIW, I ordered a keyed cylinder from a locksmith on eBay and installed it in my driveway for a little over 100 bucks.

Do you keep a lot of keychains or other keys on your key ring with your car keys?

Ah, there's my mark. See if you could learn the proper technique for pulling out, you don't have to worry about the babies. Laughing

I didn't think the 00-05 had anything special for the keys.....my 05 has a normal key, no chip or anything and will take a key that was copied by Ace just fine, no problems..........

inserting a key that doesn't fit will cause the alarm to fire(cue helldorado),

it might mistake the key as wrong if the cylinder is defective, or thats what I was worried about anyways.

and no, other than the car key i keep a house key and a old room key.

I don't think that's how it works... the wrong key will simply not turn.

There is no special chip or resistance or anything fancy about the 00-05 keys. They're just a piece of metal with a special shape that turns the cylinder. There would be no way for the ignition switch to know whether or not the correct key is inserted. I've put wrong GM keys in mine before not paying attention and nothing happens...

I do put the wrong key in mine now all the time now (I've got one key for the locks and one key for the ignition switch and they look the same...).

Also for the OP if you are interested this is where I got my ignition cylinder,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors.....ccessories

Looks like he raised his prices a little bit since last year.
