2001 Chevrolet Impala

PostPosted: Thu Mar 04, 2010 11:56 am    Post subject: Question 2001 impala 3.8 Reply with quote

Hi everybody.

Ksjkato here in Winnipeg Canada.

Got a sweet deal on a 2001 Impala in mint condition with 42000km. No joke.

Little old lady who was friend of family.

All good on car. Automatic door lock switch inside on drivers side does not open the other doors, does open the drivers door...any easy fix?

Car had been sitting a lot in an underground parking lot.

Tires seem to be losing a bit of air...is this because of the aluminum rims?

Thanks for help.

Welcome to the NAIOA. Sounds like you found a good deal there lol. Losing air in the tires during the winter months is perfectly normal. It could possibly be that the rim is leaking too. Spray some washer fluid around the sidewall of the tire and valve stem. If any bubbles appear, theres your leak.

Honestly, I'd wonder if at 42000 km the factory tires are still on the car. If that's the case they might be in rough shape and leaking because they are old and dry rotted. I'd at least check into that possibility.

Welcome aboard. As far as the driver door switch (called the master switch) it may need replacement or opened up and cleaned.

Hey guys...thanks for the quick responses...

have put the back tires on the front and front on back...tires are original, but never been rotated...seem not to have cracks...serpentine belt a bit cracked...will replace...

cool to have the resource of this website...feels like an exclusive club..lol..

can't wait to get this baby on the highway...feels so tight and soft, almost like new...obviously a good cruising car.

not too worried about the door lock issue...slight inconvenience only.

It's also a dangerous thing too Laughing. Most of us were drawn to the site after finding it while searching for fixes to various problems and a bunch stick around and get bit by the mod bug.
