So today I noticed a little bit of buildup that appears to be coming from the front left of the LIM. It definitely was at least partially coolant. Here are some pics, do I need to replace the LIM gasket? Something else?

It might be the coolant elbow as well, but it's a little hard to see exactly where it is since I can't see the elbow. Wink

Frank, I looked at the elbow and it did not appear to have any gunk around it...

Can you clean it up...Then you can monitor it to see where it is coming from....

Looks like it might be LIM mixed with a little oil from the start of a leaky valve cover gasket. I haven't seen many with leaky LIM gaskets though, mainly just coolant elbows but there is no build up there. Clean it up real good and observe it over the next couple of days to see where it is coming from.

*edit* crazydayz beat me to that one...

Sounds like a plan.

How are you oil and coolant levels? It's a dead giveaway that you have an issue if either is frequently low. My coolant was leaking about a pint a month internally (the mechanic that fixed it said it looked like it was burning up in the intake runners) for 2 years before the LIM gasket finally gave out entirely.

Mine's been starting to do the same thing for about a year and a half. I am waiting for my tax return to fix it now.

I'd get it fixed sooner rather than later. Mine went from the slow leak to full blown oil and coolant hemorrhaging in less than 300 miles on a highway trip. I was nearly stranded in middle of nowhere Kentucky, but luckily I had a gallon of coolant and 2 quarts of oil with me at the time, so I was able to limp it back to Nashville.

Coolant was actually a little low, which it usually never is. I typically add a half quart to a quart during my 5k oil change intervals, I do a lot of city driving so that doesn seem to bad to me, but the missing coolant has me worried.

So I cleaned up where the build up was, and noticed that there was also a good amount of gunk along the back of the front valve cover and also collected around the injectors. Bad valve cover gasket? That wouldn't contribute to the missing coolant though would it?

Valve cover gaskets are fairly common to go bad for whatever reason. They would not contribute to coolant loss though. If you do the LIM gaskets it would be easy to do valve cover gaskets at the same time.
