I will have to contribute to website as info here has been invaluable. Realize takes $$ to keep a website up and running.
Looking into doing the upper and lower intakes myself ('05 3800) but enjoy really knowing as many details as possible before I tackle something new. I will try searches and try to plow through some old posts, forgive if I ask a question that is already out their.
On the LIM here are my questions. Will go with revised aluminum frame LIM gasket set from GM
(1.) On the “end seals” of the LIM what holds them in place? Do they have tabs of some sort, sticky backed or what keeps them from getting knocked around or falling off the ends as you lower the LIM or just have to lower carefully.
(2.) I see rtv needs applied at each end of the end seals. How thick (about size of pencil or tootsie roll”?
(3.) Should I lip some of the rtv under and over out at each end or just nest it in at the ends?
(4.) High strength threadlock or med strength the LIM bolts? How many steps to you like before getting to final torque (I have the pattern). These bolts ever a problem to get out with the factory threadlock that is on them?
(5.) Ok to use air tools on the loosen, or safer to go by hand even on loosen?
Thanks, Had came across the info and have it printed. Note sure how much rtv required at ends of LIM end seals. Last picture looks like it has a very small amount of rtv running diagonal at the ends but cant tell very well.
