2002 Chevrolet Impala

To register, To add a zip code, To add a vehicle to the garage..........

Hi.

I acquired my "new" 2002 Impala as a distribution from an estate. I know, not the happiest way to get a vehicle, but then again, it was free. Except for the repairs and neglected maintenance that needs to be done.

It's relatively undamaged except for scattered paint chips and obligatory damage to the front facia from parking bumpers. It's never been in an accident.

I plan to keep it stock, sorry modders, as reliability is paramount over performance. Although I might consider adding vent shades. (boo, hiss, yay, depending on what camp you're in)

So far the only thing mechanically wrong with it is the MFS won't click on the high beams. This keeps me from registering the vehicle for the road as it will fail inspection. But that's ok, as I have spare cars. This will replace one of them when it's road ready. I've search a few topics here and find that this failure is a pretty common thing. Too bad the switch costs $250 or so.

I picked up the service manuals from eBay so taking the column apart will be cake. This is my first experience with air bags, so the manual will be helpful.

I'll keep you posted here as I progress.

Welcome from one newb to another.

I like you, don't intend to go to far with the modding, perhaps a CAI and some tweeks to the exterior but not really mechanically inclined either so that pretty much puts the brakes on MY modding.

Once again welcome!

Welcome to the NAIOA. You say you don't really plan to mod but I will warn you if you ever start, it never stops. I only planed on putting a cat back exhaust system on when I bought the car but man did that change quick Laughing . Again, welcome!

Those plans go out the window pretty quick for most people if they stick around long enough. Welcome.

I mean not one mod!? You'll still have a reliabe whip, our cars are pretty tough minus the petty things that pop up here and there. How bout some interior mods?

Ok you got me. I did say I was considering vent shades.

But it's true, I was doing an inside mod or two. I ordered some Husky liners for the front and back. :woohoo: I already have them in my Subie and they work great.

I would consider retrofitting a autodim rear view mirror, but I don't know if it's plug & play or requires more wiring.

The PO had an alarm on it and no one can find the owner's manual so I don't know what it is. The fob is factory but the build code says it didn't come with an alarm.

Other than that, I think my heavy modding days are over. I'm used to v-8's with headers, 4-bbl T-jets and no cats, not sideways v-6's with FI. This is all new to me. Very Happy
