Hey all, I have tried using the search function but had no luck. My brothers 04's rear defrost hast stopped working. We have tried swapping out the relay, inspected the 60amp Maxi, and swapped the seat breaker with the defrost breaker, and still no love Crying or Very sad

What is the next thing to check?

AC

Edit:
ok searched again and found mention of the defrost/antenna module being a common failure point. How do you test it? Pull the upper connector, use a multi meter and check for 12v?

Check the tabs at the back window. They come detached from the glass. Also, a volt meter may be in order too, to see if a grid line may be cracked or broken.

The connections to the grid looked solid, and I didn't find any breaks in the gid (checked that first, thought maybe his son swung something while he was sitting in the back)

Looks and what's really going on under the paint are two different things. It's still a good idea to run an ohmmeter across the connections with it unplug to make sure there isn't an insanely high resistance (indicating corrosion or something coming apart), an open (indicating something is broken), or 0 ohms (indicating a short, but I find that highly unlikely).

I'll check the grid with the Ohm's meter to see what's doing.

I didn't relise that there was a mini fuse in the pass side block, would the switch and relay still engage if this fuse was blown?

Quite possibly. Worth looking into.

I don't remember now, but i THINK it didn't when mine blew, but was quite some time ago I can't remember for sure. Cuz i think the Mini fuse is for the switch/Coil side of the relay.

Edit: NM I blew the 60A Fuse under the hood, the Mini fuse in the Right I/P Fusebox is for The Heated Exterior Mirrors.

I don't see a fuse for the rear defog in any of the inside fuse panels..

There is a 60A Maxi-Fuse under the hood and a 30A Breaker behind the right side fuse panel along with the relay in the right side fuse panel.

I would test the following using a meter:
1) With the defroster on, there should be 12V between the two connectors to the grid on the rear window
2) If there isn't, I'd unplug the power feed to the grid and make sure you have 12V there

Report back what you find with these two tests...

mine hasn't worked since i got it either... but the first time I cleaned my car good there was a lot of broken glass in between the back seats and the back... so I guess the window was smashed and they put a new one in and maybe forgot to hook it up? the glass isn't fit in all the way on the car either but it doesnt leak or anything

I would complain to whoever you bought it from, espcially if you got it from a dealer.

nice to see someone close to me location wise on here btw.

DOH! Yup,.. disregard. I was thinking something else. Must be the breaker I was thinking was the mini fuse for some reason.

219 FTW! haha

I got it from a dealer almost a year ago now... I bought the car the day it came in so they hadn't cleaned it or anything... so i guess its probably too late to complain to them... I really haven't needed to use it very much anyway
