Where does the fuel light get its data from? Does it trigger it from the gauge or does it trigger it from somewhere else. According to the Driver info center i still have 6 gallons but my low fuel light just triggered. But also my fuel level sending unit is screwed up and doesnt read right. Thanks in advance

Im not 100% but on a lot sending units for the fuel pump have an arm the sticks out, also called the float. The arm is atttached to a rheostat (I think thats how its spelled) that sends a signal when the arm gets into a certain position. So if your sending unit is messed up then either the float or the rheostat is also messed up telling the ECU to turn the light on even though you still have plenty fuel left in the tank.

Not sure exactly how it works but try not to run the tank low. By running the tank low, you force the pump to work extra hard which creates more heat. Eventually the added heat will cause premature wear on the pump causing it to fail.

The low fuel light comes on when the fuel level sender detects that the fuel level is below a certain value (about 18% IIRC). If your level sender is messed up, that's why it came on early.
