I drove from Syracuse to Rochester today in the slush and my drivers side windshield wiper stopped working. First it would go up, but then not come back down, then when it went back up again, it just pushed it past the windshield and got stuck between the drivers side mirror and pillar. So now the passenger side wiper works fine but the drivers side one only moves a couple inches and goes back down. It looks pretty sad. Any ideas? Is there like a belt in there that's loose or is it all gears and one of them's stripped?

I dont think there is any belts, maybe the motor that controls the wipers is going out. Also if the car stayed outside and iced over it might of tried to move with the wipers stuck and it could of ruined the motor.

The motor is fine. The passenger side moves as it should but the drivers side does not. There's something wrong somewhere between the motor and the arm. Does anyone have any information on taking that area apart so I can look at it?

Check the driver's side bolt? Possibly could have loosened or even stripped due to the excess in slush.

Agreed. The arm is just held onto the stalk with a nut. The arms are not splined like days of old. That way they don't strip,.. just loosen up.
