I have been using my keyless entry fob for a few years now on my 2004 Impala and it works fine for the most part. I have found though that it has lost a fair bit of distance recently.

I used to be able to open the doors / trunk from a lot further away and now I have to be a minimum of about 15 feet from the car for it to work.

Is this a battery issue? Do I need to change the battery in the fob?

My fob for my car starter (after market) seems to be working just fine and from much further away.

I've never changed a battery in a fob before so if that's what I need to do, I assume it's a simple procedure with no need to reconfigure anything after.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, change the battery. The case can be popped open by inserting a coin into the notch cut in the casing between the two halves and twisting.

Thanks. I kinda figured that must be the problem, but it's always nice to get another persons take on things.

x3, still have not done mine and just this morning I was standing outside the door pushing the button over and over and pointing the remote at the car until it worked. Then I laugh and think I should have just used the damn key in my hand to unlock the door.

Any chance of the fobs going bad themselves? I've replaced batt. twice in mine but my wife's has only one time replaced thus far. Confused2
