Have any of you dumped the Dex-Cool and used the Universal Amber Color type antifreeze.
Like the ones that say "Compatible with ANY antifreeze/ coolant - regardless of color". OR " Amber color will not change the current antifreeze color when used for topping off.
* Provides 150,000 miles or 5 years of maximum protection when a complete cooling system flush and fill is performed.

Any problems with using this as a fresh install after I do my intake gaskets?

I know I used the Green stuff in my 97 Lumina 3.1L for 5 years without any problems after I did the intake gaskets on it.

Any thoughts on using the Amber stuff? (Not Dex-Cool)

I wouldn't trust anything that has "universal" in its name.

But that's just me.

I use dexcool or universal prestone (yellow)...which ever is cheaper at the time.

Never heard of a universal "amber" color coolant before Confused

It's OK to use, but if your doing a flush or drain, use the real stuff. I keep some of that universal stuff at home for top offs, but mainly because I have three different cooling systems to maintain. Laughing

And one thing I've noticed over the years, the cheap universal stuff tends to get dirtier faster for some reason. Confused

Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant is Amber in color.

"Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant is compatible with ANY antifreeze/ coolant regardless of color" - This is what I was referring to as "Universal" Antifreeze

Also PEAK is Amber too.

http://www.peakantifreeze.com/peak_longlife.html

Looking around I found this:

There are three technologies currently used for antifreeze/coolants:
Inorganic Additive Technology (IAT), Organic Acid Technology (OAT), and Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT).
While there are some exceptions, antifreeze/coolants with IAT are generally green in color; antifreeze/coolants with OAT are generally orange in color; and antifreeze/coolants with HOAT are generally yellow in color.
