When I drive at night my Dashboard lights go out.. not just the dash but every single light (steering wheel window controls) the only things that stay on are the PRNDL/Odometer and the Radio.

They sometimes come back on.. it seems to have nothing to do with bumpy roads or fuses.. the only thing I can think of is BCM.

Can I buy one from Rock Auto and install it myself? I understand that I have to have the dealer program it.. but if I switched it myself would the car get me from my house to the dealer?

Thanks!

I would check out the headlamp switch first. Happened to me a while back.

If it does happen to be the BCM, the answer is no. The car won't even start until it is programmed with a tech 2.

Thanks.. and reading that thread it sounds like it might be it.. but did you have it work sometimes? Like tonight I drove for an hour and the lights never went out. Sometimes I drive and they go out for 20 minutes then come back on.

If I turn the dial on the headlight switch all the way, the interior lights come on. But like what you said.. the Odometer is on but very dim. Everything else is off when it goes out.

Seems like if it was the headlight switch it would go out and stay out?

Knowing my luck I'd replace the BCM then have to do the switch, or vice versa.
Thanks for your reply.. if yours did work sometimes and sometimes not then maybe I'll do headlight switch first.

It's more than likely the headlight switch... it usually is intermittent at first

Also, I would stay away from a BCM from an auto parts store, they tend to be rebuilt ones and considering how fragile they are to begin with, a rebuilt is a bad idea

X2 on the cheap ones. A GM one is the only way to go. And also, you can't buy a used one. It's a one time program.
