i assume fishing line, or a credit card, a blowdryer, and some goo gone to clean the residue

You might have to use some goo gone to remove any glue residue.

I have to repaint mine in spring thanks to not seeing the screw on the back. Mine had some rust from road badges on both front door pillars (rears are ok) and I didn't think to look since my cavalier I had never had problems with the pillars. Any advice on getting the ones behind the mirrors off? I'm going to repaint them with either semi gloss or gloss black in spring I hope.

I highly doubt it. They are going to get at least a little messed up when you remove them, so they are better left to the garbage man than to reapply them. If you really want to put them on again after removing them, get another set.
